Newsday.com reports that the Long Island Power Authorita (LIPA) has proposed a plan and is holding meetings to discuss building project of 40 wind turbines on Long Island.
The turbines will be errected over eight square miles of ocean 3 1/2 to 5 miles off the coast from Jones Beach to Robert Moses State Park.

Renewable Energy Access reports that REpower has resolved a patent dispute with GE Energy and is now jumping back into the US wind turbine market. The company has received an order for 56 MM92 turbines from enXco Inc. as well as an option to buy another 19. According to the company, this will be their first American order and the company’s largest order to date.

InsideBayArea.com reports that Danish wind turbine firm Vestas has built eight wind turbines in the Montezuma Hills area, North America. The turbines stand at a massive 415 feet high, making them 41.5 stories high and the largest wind turbines in North America.

bbc.co.uk reports that many UK ministers have proposed that 10% of Scotland’s energy be of a renewable source, such as wind energy. The ministers say they want councils to decide what areas are suitable for wind energy. The goal is to have at least 40% of Scotlands energy produced from renewable recources.

RenewableEnergyAccess.com reports that a verticle axis wind turbine is being built adjacent to a Michigan residential retirement home that will meet over half of their annual energy needs.
The wind turbine is being built by WindStor Power Co., which recently arranged a 20-year power purchase agreement with the company that manages the Pioneer Bluff senior citizen apartment complex. WindStor developed a similar but smaller vertical axis wind turbine model that currently operates in Quebec.
The turbine’s foundation is currently under construction. The turbine is expected to be completed and operational by the end of the month.

London-SE1 notes that a group of London architects and engineers have proposed plans for a large, 40 meter tall, Y-shaped wind turbine. They want to place their first on the riverside walkway, near City Hall and Tower Bridge.
The design includes LED lighting to add a cultural artistic effect to the already unique design in hopes to be used for sporting events. The turbine is capable of powering 25 homes.

SpokesmanReview.com reports that a large wind farm project is being developed east of Ellensburg, Washington and is visible to travelers along Interstate 90.
13 of the planned 127 wind turbines have been built for the Wild Horse Wind Project, which will generate enough electricity for 70,000 homes. The project is owned and operated by Puget Sound Energy, which will begin generating electricity from the 13 completed turbines within the next few weeks.

PPM Energy announced that The Trimont Area Wind Farm was dedicated on Saturday, July 8. The Trimont Area Wind Farm is the largest landowner-developed turbine wind farm in the United States.
The wind farm project, which is developed and operated by PPM Energy (part of the ScottishPower group of companies), uses 67 wind turbines to generate up to 100 MegaWatts of renewable energy - enough to power 29,000 homes.

RenewableEnergyAcess.com notes that Shell WindEnergy Inc. has announced its plans to build its first wind farm in the State of Hawaii, in Maui’s Ulupalakua Ranch. If approved, the project will meet roughly 20% of all of Maui’s energy needs.
The wind farm project will cost more than $200 million and should be finished in three to five years. The first phase of the project should be complete by 2008.

Channel3000.com reports that Chicago-based Midwest Wind Energy’s plans for a 48 turbine wind farm in Marathon County, Wisconsin are on hold temporarily.
When completed, the 48 turbine wind farm will cover up to 10,000 acres and produce 100 MegaWatts of electricity - enough to power 50,000 homes.
Midwest Wind Energy is involved in three other projects within the state of Wisconsin.
