Ireland Windfarm Inks VRB Energy Storage System Purchase Agreement

Written on August 30, 2006

PR Newswire reports that VRB Power Systems, Inc. will sell 12 a megawatt hour energy storage system to Ireland’s Tapbury Management Limited of Letterkenny, Co. advancing Tapbury’s management goals for its 32 MW Sorne Hill Windfarm in Ireland, one of Ireland’s largest windfarms. With the VRB storage system purchase, Tapbury will be enabled to expand the system’s storage capacity to integrate with its existing 32MW, giving them an option of 50MWs energy storage capability. Ireland is abundant in its wind power potential and the VRB storage installation at Sorne will substantially advance the visibility of a storage solution. The Irish Government has set a goal to make renewables constitute 15% of electricity by 2010, compared to 2005’s mark of 6.8% and recent developments show the feasibility of Ireland having the largest percentage of renewables of any system in the world.
