Chicago Tribune.com reports that the Northbrook village in Illinois has signed on to purchase enough wind-power electricity to run its water plant, making it one of the first in the country to do so. The village’s move toward green energy will equate to removing 738 cars from the road and will add $4 or $5 dollars annually to each resident’s water bill. Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich wants to see renewable energy compile 8 percent of in-state electricity by 2012 and this would make Illinois the 2nd largest renewable energy state following California.

Tuscaloosa News.com reports that India-based Suzlon Energy is leading the way in wind power expansion in India and abroad. Four-fifths of Suzlon’s contracts come from outside of India and Suzlon has now moved up to fifth in the world ranks in terms of installed megawatts. Seventy percent of the demand for wind turbines in India is generated by industrial plants and the other thirty percent comes from wealthy families who receive tax breaks for installing wind turbines. Suzlon is continuing its growth with turbine development in India and China and Suzlon is poised to keep its exponential growth rate up as wind power options become more attractive.
