Bird and Bat Fatalities Study Done at Maple Ridge Wind Farm

Utility Automation and Engineering reportsthat “bird and bat fatalities found at the Maple Ridge turbines were within range of fatalities found during the late summer and fall [2006] migration around turbines in the U.S.” This study was conducted by the owners of the Maple Ridge Wind Farm in New York, PPM Energy & Horizon Wind Energy. The project was not operational until mid-2006, so the study does not include the fatalities from the spring migration. The study conducted did find a higher than predicted fatality rate for bats. It was still lower than that of wind farms inthe Appalachian Ridges.
