Wind-Power Cards for Purchase

NorthJersey.com reports consumers can purchase a wind-power card equivalent to average amount of electricity used each month by an American family.  The problem comes when these consumers still don’t make a lifestyle change.  Companies are using the “checkbook environmentalis” as a way to appeal to customers and then not practicing greenways - such as recycling.

Wind Project Rejected Due to Exposure

Southern Reporter reports eight wind turbines were rejected to be constructed atop Dunion Hill and Black Law in Scotland.  The proposal was unanimously rejected in a 20 minute tie frame as it would damage the landscape.  Commissioners said they have approved larger wind projects, but nothing that would be so exposed as this.  Windjen now has the opportunity to file for an appeal.

India to Have New Wind Farm

PRNewswire.com reports South India will receive a 20MW wind project by Cemtrex Inc.  The wind project will have the capacity to produce 18,000 carbon credits a year using 13 wind turbines.  India is currently estimated to a wind energy potential of 45,000 MW. 

Federation of Agriculture Presidents Speaks Out About Big Wind Developers

Bayshore Broadcasting reports the President of the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture in Ontario, Canada feels that wind farm developers are taking advantage of landowners and asks the officals to be more cautious when approving future wind projects.  He says the landowners are not being compensated fairly for tying up the land for 20-40 years with the revenue leaving the country, and the Agriculture Federation is supportive of community run wind operations.

Wind Farm Approved in Ontario, Canada

The Daily Commercial News reports Cartier Wind Energy Inc has won environmental approval for a 73 turbine wind farm on Gaspe Peninsula, Ontario, Canada.  The $170 million Carleton Wind Farm will provide enough electricity for 21,000 households.  Construction can begin as soon as other permits are obtained.

Maine Wind Farm to Give Back to Local Community

The Original Irregular reports TransCanada has proposed a wind farm in Maine consisting of 44 wind turbines, each with a capacity of producing 3 MW.  The $270 million project will require 17.4 miles of new roads and three county commissioners have endorsed the project.  Over $1 million dollar of paid taxes will be returned to the local community.

Arcapita Bank Sells Stake in U.K. Wind Farm Developer

Gulf Daily News reports Arcapita Bank has had one third stake in Zephyr Investments Limited since 2004.  Zephyr currently has 17 wind farms in the United Kingdom with a combined capacity of 319 MW.  Arcapita has sold their stake for $294.5 million.  In the last month Arcapita has exited from three of their portfolios to benefit their investors.

The Register reports that the hearing on the Cape Wind Project had over one hundred attendees to focus on the transmission lines from the offshore project to NSTAR switching facility.  Both pro & con views were discussed on the project that was initiated over six years ago.

Indian Government Plans to Increase Incentives for Wind Energy

Livemint.com reports the Indian government has planned to increase incentives associated with wind power in an attempt to increase wind energy generation.   Existing incentives currently benefit the investment, not the production of wind energy.  A report recently submitted to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy outlines incentives modeling those of the U.S., Canada, and Finland in an attempt to increase wind power in India.

Professor Uses Wind Farm to Change History

The Sunday Herald reports a professor from Scotland’s University of the Highlands and Islands Centre for History will use the example of a wind farm as a way to change public mind from the historical picture of Edinburgh.  This wind farm, consisting of three turbines, brought £100,000 for local reinvestment.
