Research Covers Potential of Offshore Wind in California
Innovations Report reports a meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, California will feature Stanford researchers’ findings on issues related to offshore wind farms in California. The study showed it would be more economical to build in shallow waters, even though greater winds are found further offshore. A limiting factor for this technology is the Merchant Marine Act of 1920 that requires construction of these offshore turbines be built in the United States while Europe is already and better equipped for this construction.
