First Minister Asked to Save Western Isles Wind Project
The Herald reports the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, has been asked to save the Lewis wind farm project on the Western Isles. The Scottish Government has refused the proposal on the basis the project will have a signifcant impact on the protected site. The Western Isles Council is convinced the proposed 181 turbines could generate £6 million a year in community benefits and create 300 jobs. Lewis has been given 3 weeks to present evidence to change the Government’s mind.
