BP Cancels Partnership with Goldwind

BNet Industries reports BP Alternative Energy has stopped its partnership with China’s Goldwind, a turbine manufacturer.  The partnership was originally planning to build three wind farms to generate 50MW of power to Inner Mongolia.

EcoWorldly reports the Zorlu Wind Energy farm in Jhimpir, Pakistan is almost complete.  The project will provide power to 6,900 homes and already has plans for an expansion to 50MW.  The wind power produced from the Zorlu farm will be less expensive than electricity from thermal sources.

The Dong A-Ilbo reports an electric tree with 100 leaves can charge a AA battery with wind power at 1.5 meters per second.  This technology has been developed as an alternative to traditional energy sources by the Cheju National University and presented a the International Sustainable Energy Symposium.  Also, lower construction costs and environmental damage was reported from Blue H’s floating wind farms in Italy.

The New Republic reports coal is still the reigning energy force in China, but wind is fast growing.  Policymakers have had to double their wind power prediction since they have met their 5gW goal three years ahead of schedule.

AltAssets reports Arcapita Bank has partnered with Colossus Holding to acquire Honiton Energy Holding.  Honiton is a developer and operator of wind farms in China.  The partnership will invest $2 billion to develop 1,650 MW of wind power generating capacity.

48 Turbines on 59 Floors of Dubai’s Rotating Tower

Eco Geek reports the Rotating Tower in Dubai is set to begin construction.  It features 59 floors that independently rotate.  Each floor can create up to .3MW of electricity using the 48 wind turbines that are embedded amongst them.

Inhabitat reports construction is set to begin on the Rotating Tower in Dubai.  The floors are capable of rotating on a central axis and providing residents with a new view whenever they wish.  The skyscraper will not only be powered solely by sun and wind, but it is expected to create 10 times the amount of energy than required to power it.  48 wind turbines are constructed in between the rotating floors to produce .3 MW of electricity.

India’s Largest Wind Project Will be Operational in 2009

ExpressIndia.com reports a 50 MW wind project in West Bengal, India is the largest in the eastern region.  It will require 700 acres of land and is expected to provide power by 2009.  The project is managed by Suzlon Energy.

Trade Arabia reports the Dubai Group has invested in 40% stake in a wind turbine manufacturer in India, Chiranjjeevi Wind Energy Limited.  The group is looking to have a diversified renewable energy portfolio to endorse renewable energy projects throughout Asia.  With this investment, CWEL will expand in the Middle East as well as Africa, in addition to India, with potential wind farms.  The company has recently installed 150 turbines in India.
