NorthJersey.com reports the current governor of New Jersey signed the Global Warming Response Act to reduce greenhouse emissions. A $1 billion wind farm has been approved by this administration to be built off the coast of the state. By 2020 New Jersey could have a wind power capacity of 3,000MW.

ABC Local 12 News reports Governor Jennifer Granholm of Michigan visited the thumb of the state to promote green legislation and Huron County’s second wind farm. The Governor believes wind power will help Michigan get back on the right economic path. She recently signed a three bill package called the Renewable Portfolio Standard.

PressofAtlanticCity.com reports Garden State Offshore Energy was awarded a $4million grant towards the construction of a wind farm that is expected to power 125,000 homes. Also, New Jersey’s governor announced a new target for wind power production by 2020, 3,000 MW. This is triple what the original mark of 1,000 MW was set.

CourierPostOnline.com reports Governor Jon Corzini has reset New Jersey’s renewable energy goal. This new plan will use 13% of all energy coming from wind power. An offshore wind farm has been approved off the coast of Atlantic City.

Red Orbit reports Department of Environmental Protection officials visited the Bee Tree Surface Mine to ensure blasting had not begun for a Massey Energy wind farm. The company had advertised the blasting before all necessary permits were obtained and an environmental group interfered before 220 wind turbines were installed prematurely.

The Winfield Daily Courier reports Governor Mark Parkinson hopes this election year can change things in the House of Representatives. He is happy to see Kansas is moving forward with wind farm development. The state expects 1,015 MW of wind energy by the end of 2008. The Governor is concerned, however, not with with wind farm development, but finding buyers to purchase that energy.

Steamboat Pilot & Today reports the Rural Council was excited to be acknowledged by the Democratic Nominee for President, Barack Obama. The Council believes that John McCain will voate against all issues important to rural America, including renewable energy sources and wind energy.

North American Wind Power reports Kaheawa Wind Power was recognized as a recipient of the Governor’s Innovation Award. The company’s 30MW wind farm generated 125,000 MWh in 2007 and can meet 9% of Maui’s electricity needs at peak times.

Hawaii Reporter reports the Hawaiian Governor Linda Lingle will travel to Nassau and Denver in an effort to develop partnerships that will strengthen the state’s role as a leader in alternative energy. Currently, the state has a goal to have 70% of their energy coming from renewable resources by 2030.

Cape Gazette reports Maryland’s Governor is interested in jumping on board with Delaware in the offshore Bluewater Wind project. The larger the project the less risk involved and the greator economic benefits to all parties. Delmarva Power will purchase 200 MW of wind power from the project. For the project to expand to 600 MW generating capacity, Maryland would have to be a secured customer.
