Environmental Protection reports a University of California at Berkeley student was awarded a 3 year grant by the EPA. The student was awarded the grant after research findings of future wind and solar facilities. Finding that together, wind and solar resulted in greater and less expensive power than solar or wind alone.

PressofAtlanticCity.com reports Garden State Offshore Energy was awarded a $4million grant towards the construction of a wind farm that is expected to power 125,000 homes. Also, New Jersey’s governor announced a new target for wind power production by 2020, 3,000 MW. This is triple what the original mark of 1,000 MW was set.

Newsminer.com reports a wind turbine near Delta Junction, Alaska produces 100kW of electricity. Alaska Environmental Power plans to install 15MW of wind power if this project does not have an adverse affect on the electric grid. AEP has signed a power purchase agreement, good for 20 years, with GVEA and has applied for a $5 million grant from the state’s renewable energy fund.

The Courier reports a $9.5 million community investment is needed to build Australia’s first community owned wind farm. The two turbine project would create a trust fund to provide the community with $1 million a year for the life of the project.

Spalding Today reports Thomas Cowley High School in the United Kingdom has submitted plans to install a 500MW wind turbine for educational purposes. Besides placing the school one step closer to Eco-Schools Green Flag Status, it will provide the school with a means to educate students on sustainability issues. A computer in the school would display the measured wind speed, direction, and power generated. The cost would be £2,000 which would come from a grant in the Bicker Trust.

BBC News reportsthree wind turbines have been proposed in Scotland’s Western Isles that could create an income of £150,000 from the sale of electricity. The Ore Valley Housing Association has been awarded £200,000 to conduct a feasibility study. The money generated from the wind farm could go to create jobs and other projects to benefit the North Harris community.

Brommfield Network reports that seven small-scale wind projects in Illinois will receive grants ranging from $6,284 - $24, 954. These projects will be 100 kilowatts or less and will focus on use for the home, farm, and small business. One person who is a recipient of the grant has created a prototype for future construction of homes that uses wind power alone for all electricity in the house.

North American Wind Power reports the Ohio Department of Development has awarded a grant totalling $5 million under the Ohio Wind Production and Manufacturing Incentive Program. These monies were awarded to the Buckeye Wind Project, which is expected to produce 100 MW of wind power in Champaign and Logan Counties, and Wood County Wind Farm which is anticipated to power 15,000 homes in Wood County.

Energy Current reports the Baie-des-Sables Wind Energy project in Canada will receive $31 million (US) in funding over a 10 year period. The 73 turbine wind farm has a capacity of 109.5 MW, and is the first of six planned wind projects by Cartier Wind Energy. After the completion of all six projects they will produce an estimated 740 MW. The ecoENERGY for Renewable Power initiative that is providing this funding, is allocating $1.48 billion (US) to increase renewable energy sources in Canada.
