Cloud Computing Journal reports WPCS International Inc. has installed a wind turbine at Sherrard Community Unit School in Rock Island, Illinois. The project was supported by a grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation.

The Earth Times reports the Wessington Springs Wind Farm was dedicated to provide renewable energy to the University of South Dakota and South Dakota State University. This contribution helps the universities to be the first in the Midwest to use 100% renewable energy. Heartland Consumers and Babcock & Brown will work together for future wind projects.

KXNet.com reports the first phase of Montana’s Glacier Wind farm is expected to provide power to California consumers within two weeks. Another 69 turbines are planned for the second phase in the spring.

Barry’s Bay This Week reports Renewable Energy Systems hosted a meeting for Whitney area residents about a proposal to build 48 wind turbines near Algonquin Provincal Park. One turbine weighs 253 tons and residents are concerned of the visual pollution and environmental impact the project would have.

North American Wind Power reports Juhl Wind Inc. and Abilene Christian University in Texas will conduct a feasibility study for a 3 MW wind project. This project would be the jump start for a potential expansion into a larger wind farm.

StarTribune.com reports Medina City council has approved the installation of a 407 foot wind turbine. Two thirds of the residents present at the council meeting opposed the decision, but the county is looking to reduce their yearly $7 million electric bill. The county will only build a wind turbine if they are able to sell enough electricity to pay for the turbine, operating costs, and have a little left to lower electric rates.

Regen.net reports a national park will consider taking legal action against a proposed wind farm. The Peak District National Park Authority is challenging the Derbyshire Dales District Council on West Coast Energy’s approved proposal to install 4 wind turbines near the border of the park.

Independent.ie reports Mainstream Renewable Energy will join with Andes Energy in Chile for a $1 billion deal to develop a wind farm. The wind farm will generate 400MW of wind power and be operational by 2010. Mainstream will hold 90% of the share, while Andes will hold the remaining 10%. The wind farm will produce enough electricity to power 19,000 homes and will employ 200 people during contruction. Andes hopes to have 5% of energy coming from sustainable sources by 2010.

Duke Energy reports the commercial operation of the Ocotillo Wind Farm in Texas began the beginning of this month. The 28 turbine wind farm is expected to produce 59MW of wind generated power. Earlier this year, Duke Energy had a 30MW wind project become operational in Wyoming. The company is one of the largest electric companies in the U.S. and plans to have 500MW of wind power operating by the end of 2008.

ABC News reports fundraising to install two wind turbines for a community owned wind farm has been difficult due to the global financial crisis. Currently, Hepburn Wind has only raised $2 million of the $5 million needed from investors. The court has granted a 6 week extension in hopes the economy will improve.
