Seeking Alpha reports Blackstone has invested $1.5 billion in a German offshore wind farm.  Offshore wind farms are expected to grow at a rate of 50% a year for the next five years, and onshore wind farms are expected to grow just as much.  With this demand, wind turbine stocks will benefit greatly and wind turbine manufacturing is growing to meet these requirements.

TheStreet.com reports Jim Cramer says wind power is cheap, clean, and efficient.  He feels wind power is easily integrated to the grid, contrary to what critics say.  Various stock options are available to explore with wind power’s affordable price.

First Wind Holdings Holds Public Offering

Cleantech reports First Wind Holdings is looking to raise $450 million in an initial public offering.  The shares will be sold as Class A, but the price per share hasn’t been disclosed.  The proceeds of the sale will repay debt and fund captial expenditures.  The company plans to have 2,300 MW of operating capacity by 2013.

Oil Voice reports BP has a 6% increase with second quarter replacement cost profit.  Followed by the first quarter, BP was involved with the Fowler Ridge wind farm installation, a joint venture for development and operation of Sherbino Mesa wind farm in Texas and a partnership with Westar Energy for the Flat Ridge wind farm in Kansas.

Wisconsin Energy Indicates Income Increase for Quarter Earnings

WISBusiness.com reports Wisconsin Energy has indicated an increase in net income for the second quarter of 2008.  This can be attributed to the use of wind power starting in May from the Blue Sky Green Field wind farm that has 88 turbines.

Fox Business reports Water Capital Inc. announced they will acquire all issued and outstanding shares of Schneider Power Inc., a wind farm developer.  After the acquisition, Water Capital will be able to list shares on the exchange.

BP and EDF Look to Acquire Wind Shares from Turkish Companies

Hot News Turkey reports BP is interested in acquiring stakes in seven wind projects from Turkish companies. The capacity of these projects is 246 MW.  EDF, a power supplier is also looking to buy shares in an unidentified Turkish company.

Red Orbit reports High Country Energy is seeking $3.1 million from Minnesota investors to build a 200 turbine wind farm.  This large of a project is normally funded by private investors, but High Country is registered as an in-state public offering.  These funds will help with preliminary costs, the entire project is estimated between $600 and $700 million to complete.

TransAlta Goes Private

Cleantech reports a deal worth $7.8 billion could turn TransAlta into a privately owned company.  TransAlta is currently Canada’s largest independent power producer of wind, geothermal and hydro power.  LS Power Equity is pushing for the deal and plans to offer $6 billion in equity and a $2billion debt facility.
