Energy East Waits Approval for a Merger

MSNBC.com reports Energy East is waiting for approval to permit a merger with Iberdrola to benefit the New York grid.  This merge would connect utilities with wind power.



Colorado Facility Will Help Manufacture Wind Turbines for National Goals

KKTV.com reports T. Boone Pickens is developing the world’s largest wind farm in Texas.  He has discussed plans to provide 20% of the nation’s energy with wind power to both presidential candidates.  Pickens believes they have been receptive to his proposal to install turbines from the Texas panhandle to North Dakota.  In order to meet the goal of 20% renewable energy sources by 2020 with wind power, that means installing 75,000 wind turbines.  Dragon Products is opening a facility in Lamar, Colorado to manufacture 300 turbines a year starting in January 2009.



Clipper Wind Power & BP Join to Develop World’s Largest Wind Farm

SustainableBusiness.com reports Clipper Wind Power and BP Alternative Energy have joined to develop the Titan Wind project.  When completed,the project will produce 5,050MW of wind power - this beats T. Boone Picken’s 4,000 MW project underway at this time. 



New Jersey Senator Supports Offshore Wind for the State

MarketWatch reports New Jersey Senator and Assemblymen have announced their suport of an offshore wind farm for the state.  The Senator is interested in developing New Jersey’s potential for wind energy as long as it is done responsibly with the coastal economy taken greatly into consideration.  Fisherman’s Energy will develop a pilot wind farm off the coast of Atlantic City while representing commercial fisherman.



Turbine Power Cable Installation Awarded for UK Wind Farm

Times & Star reports Derwent Howe’s extension plans include a £7 million contract to install 64 power cables between wind turbines at the Solway Wind Farm.  The project has the capability to power 117,000 UK homes.  The cable installation will be performed by Subocean Ltd.



Cullerin Range Wind Farm on Schedule

Yass Tribune reports construction has begun for the Cullerin Range Wind Farm.  Projected to be on schedule at this time, the site will have 15 wind turbines erected later this year.  Most work for the site preperation has been given to local tradesman.



Tetra Tech Awarded Two Wind Projects

TMCnet.com reports Tetra Tech has been awarded two wind projects.  PacifiCorp will provide the $28 million estimated for the cost of the projects that are expected to be operational by December 2008.  Located in Wyoming, the wind farms will use a total of 39 General Electric turbines.



Harthill Wind Project is Approved

Dinnington Today reports the Rotherham Council has approved a three wind turbine project in Harthill.  The project is planned to begin construction next year.  For three years the Harthill Action Group fought against this proposal.



Xcel Asks for More Increases

RiverTowns.net reports Xcel Energy is asking the Wisconsin Public Service Commission to pay for renewable energy investments, they just asked for an electricity increase of 14.2% in June of 2007.  The company is now asking for another 7.9% increase, this would add $6.47 a month to the average household electric bill.  These increase will pay for new renewable energy projects, including a 100MW wind project and new transmission lines.



Wind Farm Project Called for Re-Evaluation

Otago Daily Times reports the Environmental Court is not convinced 100 turbines will fit on the site projected for the Mahinerangi wind project.  The court rejected an appeal against the project, but TrustPower will have 40 days to reevaluate and revise their plan.
